Self Portrait

"Self Portrait" a painting by Jason CampbellIt’s totally required that you do one of these. Thankfully you can’t see the 20 layers under it. ha ha

It is a really good exercise though. I tried to paint the real me and not the face I make when I’m looking in the mirror and straining to make myself look as “handsome” as possible in my own eyes.

Rock On!

Rock On painting by Jason CampbellThis painting is a tribute to American music legends like Johnny Cash. The hands were taken from a picture of Mr. Cash. I attempted to capture the excitement of a live show through dramatic color. I used my beautiful Martin guitar and a fake scull (of course ha ha) so it is partly a still life. Now go listen to Johnny! That is an order! 🙂

The Art Institute of Chicago

I took a little vacation to Chicago. Had a great time. I checked out the website before I left but I had no idea the Art Institute had so many amazing painting. Almost all of my favorites were there. I could have spent the whole week going back. But I’m glad I got out. It really is a beautiful city with amazing architecture. I’ll post my other pictures next.

Lake Tahoe II

Lake Tahoe 2 (acrylic painting)Another painting from a bunch of pictures I took of Lake Tahoe. There was a storm coming in. It was amazing… but a little scary in an awesome way. 🙂

I worked to capture the light and it’s reflection and give the texture of the water.

Something very magical and beautiful about Lake Tahoe. I wish I could take a little vacation there and paint from straight observation….. maybe someday. 🙂

The Haggin Museum

Made a little Saturday trip to the Haggin Museum. It was well worth the drive. The building and park that is located in is beautiful. They didn’t have anything that was super modern but they do have an amazing Renoir and Gauguin. Also some native American pottery and clothes. I’ll be going back for sure. You can learn a lot from the old masters. Oh, and some work by J.C. Leyendecker who is some what similar to Norman Rockwell. Obviously he is a little more artistic. It probably crosses the line into illustration a little… but … why not… I thought his technique was interesting. 🙂

The Orange Bridge

Acrylic Painting of an Orange Bridge by Jason T CampbellThis is from a picture I took on a hike in Auburn, CA. It was over cast. I got rained on a little… but it was totally worth it :).

So I think I captured that and added a little styling to make it a secondary triad…. or close.

I’ve always loved bridges and roads… guess I love to travel and meet new people and see new sites.
